I’ve long known that there are two major (albeit apparently disconnected) differences between the town I used to live in and and the one where I’ve been for the last 3 months. Firstly, my former town was good for pubs, lots of them, but lousy for clothing stores.
I was known for spending 3-4 afternoons each week in a bar, often 2 bars. There was plenty of chat but nothing useful was usually achieved after 4pm of any day. If, however, I wanted a new frock or some other clothing, then the best plan was to take a train into the nearest city and shop there – the alternative option of online stores lost its attraction a while back.
In the town where I am now, there is one pub I like but I don’t know anyone there. That means there’s often 1-2 weeks between alcoholic drinks instead of 1-2 days! Ironically, if I still fancy a pub visit I can take a train into the nearest city (there are some nice pubs there).
In contrast there’s a good number of clothing stores in my current town but there’s also an M&S outlet and a variety of supermarket clothing sections.
So I managed to pick up a lovely maxi frock today (pictured) for a bargain in M&S! Size 12, btw. It cost me just over 2 pints worth of beer – and I stayed sober.
Of course I can still take the train, trawl the city clothing stores then get a relaxing pint – I just don’t need to as often!
