I may be in the UK (with my own concerns about my trans-identifiable data) but the US data grabs have reminded me that some personal and financial data may be at risk.

In short, I sell books through the Kindle portal and that required me to create a separate login for the Kindle backend (KDP) system that is based in the US. That registration included my legal name & address, banking information and UK tax (HMRC) ID. The aim, according to the information provided, was to guarantee being treated as exempt for the purposes of the IRS (US tax service).

Once a year I get a statement of tax on an IRS form confirming no tax was deducted at source.

But, this would mean that my details have been passed to the IRS. Until recently I was satisfied that the IRS (and HMRC) systems were secure, with no risk to my data. I am no longer certain that is the case.

So, two years ago when I transitioned, I notified Amazon (UK and US) of my name & email change (so that will have been flagged). It is reasonable to believe that my change of details has been recorded, thus flagging up my change of gender.

The question must be … is my data at risk because of current US policies etc?
